Overview

Installing multiple Okta Active Directory (AD) Agents before completing the AD integration configuration is not possible.

Each AD domain integration requires at least one Okta AD Agent, and Okta recommends installing at least two. If a second AD Agent is installed before completing the integration, only the most recently installed agent appears on the Agents page of the Okta Admin Console.

To resolve this, configure the domain integration in the Okta Admin Console with the first agent before installing additional agents.

Cause

Why do additional Active Directory Agents replace previously installed agents?

Installing a second AD Agent before completing the integration replaces any previously installed agent. The system uses only the most recently installed AD Agent to configure the domain integration. Consequently, only the most recent agent appears on the Agents page of the Okta Admin Console.

    How is the multiple Active Directory Agent installation issue resolved?

    Follow these steps to set up a new AD domain integration correctly:

    1. Install the first AD Agent.
    2. Configure the integration in the Okta Admin Console.
    3. Install additional agents as needed after completing the configuration.

    AD not configured 

    NOTE: If multiple Agents were installed before the domain integration was completed, only the most recent installation will be associated with the domain. The oldest agents must be uninstalled and reinstalled to work as expected.
