System Log Events for Desktop Password Sync

Multi-Factor Authentication
Okta Identity Engine

Overview

This article provides an overview of Desktop Password Sync, highlighting three key system log events that offer insights into the synchronization process.

Applies To

  • Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
  • Desktop Password Sync
  • PlatformSSO on Managed Devices

Solution

There are three System Log events for Desktop Password Sync (that can be viewed when navigating to Admin Dashboard > Reports > System Log). Each event tracks specific actions and outcomes during the enrollment and authentication phases of Desktop Password Sync, helping identify potential issues and their root causes:

  • device.platform_sso.keys.register

Enrolls the PlatformSSO keys (only fired in PlatformSSO 2.0 enrollment flows)

  • device.password_sync.enrollment.create

Enrolls the user into Desktop Password Sync

  • device.password_sync.authentication

Authenticates a user-entered password and performs the sync if the local password is out of sync

The reason and outcome properties provide insight into success or failure, as well as the reasons behind that failure.
