Slack Group Push Not Removing Users From the Channels Assigned to The IdP Group on the Slack Side
Okta Classic Engine
Okta Identity Engine
Okta Integration Network
Overview

When using the Group Push feature for Slack, users are getting pushed or removed from the group in the target app, but their profiles remain assigned to the Channel that was linked to the Group in the target app.

Example:

  1. A group is created and assigned to the Group Push tab of the Slack integration in Okta.
  2. Users are pushed and provisioned successfully to the group created in the Target App.
  3. A Channel is created and linked to the group on the Slack side.
  4. A user is removed from the Okta group.
  5. The user is removed from the group in Slack but remains part of the Channel that was previously assigned to the group
Applies To
  • Slack
  • Okta Integration Network (OIN)
  • Group Push
Cause

The behavior is expected, being confirmed as a Slack limitation; users will not be removed from a Channel connected to an Identity Provider (IdP) Group when they are removed from the IdP group.

Solution

Users can be removed from the Channel through the UI or Slack API.
