Slack Accounts are Not Being Automatically Created in the Appropriate Slack Workspace
Okta Integration Network
Okta Classic Engine
Okta Identity Engine
Overview

Slack Account Provisioning performed by Okta does not automatically activate/create the Slack account in the desired Slack Workspace.

Applies To
  • Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
  • Okta Classic Engine
  • Okta Integration Network (OIN)
Cause
This can be expected behavior by Slack. Slack will not automatically create accounts into the desired Slack Workspace until the account has been successfully activated. The newly created user in Slack will need to accept the invitation and populate the required information for the Slack account for that workspace.
Solution

Depending on the platform being used, this can be done by following:

Desktop Platforms

  1. Check the inbox for an email invitation from Slack.
  2. Click Join Now.
  3. Enter the full name and password, then click Create Account.

iOS

  1. Download the Slack app for iOS.
  2. Check the mobile inbox for an email invitation from Slack.
  3. Tap Join Now.
  4. Enter the full name and password, then tap Next.

Android

  1. Download the Slack app for Android.
  2. Check the mobile inbox for an email invitation from Slack.
  3. Tap Join Now.
  4. Enter the full name and tap Next.
  5. Create a password and tap Next.
