Overview

This article clarifies how application notes within the Self-Service App catalog are displayed to users based on the application's required access and approval levels.

Applies To
  • Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
  • Okta Classic Engine
  • Self-Service App
Cause

Users or administrators may notice that application notes do not consistently display in the initial search results layout. Specifically, when an application requires prior administrative approval, the note is missing from its usual spot directly beneath the application's name during an initial search.

Solution

The visibility of a Self-Service App note depends entirely on whether the application requires an approval workflow:

  • When Admin Approval IS Required:

    • Behavior: The note is hidden from the initial search results list.

    • Where it appears: The note will display dynamically after the user clicks the Request button. A prompt will appear containing the application note alongside the comments section, allowing the user to review the note while submitting their request. This is expected behavior designed to ensure users see relevant notes contextually during the approval workflow.

  • When Admin Approval IS NOT Required:

    • Behavior: The note is fully visible on the main search results page.

    • Where it appears: The note is displayed directly underneath the application's name in the list, allowing users to quickly skim the details and click Add to instantly provision the application.
