Okta RDP MFA Challenge Delay - Internet Explorer Latency
Last Updated:
Overview
Internet Explorer latency might cause difficulties for the Windows Credential Provider agent in providing and satisfying the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) challenge.
Applies To
- Microsoft Remote Desktop Connections
- RDP MFA Challenge
- Internet Explorer Latency
- Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
- Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
- Okta Classic Engine
Cause
The Windows Credential Provider agent uses Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) to open the WebView window used to present and resolve the MFA challenge for RDP connection authentication. If the Internet Explorer browser experiences latency, then difficulties with the MFA challenge can be expected.
Solution
Open an Internet Explorer browser tab and try to navigate to any webpage. If there are any major delays in loading the searched webpage, it could indicate latency issues affecting the desktop/server in question.
One possible solution (for servers) would be to contact Microsoft support and submit a support ticket requesting assistance with the latency problems.
For desktop latency issues, an internet speed test and further investigation might pinpoint the source.
