Overview

Devices on iOS 18.0 and macOS 15.0 may experience an authentication loop when using Okta FastPass, Admin action will be required to mitigate or resolve the issue.

 

Applies To

  • Managed iOS 18.0 devices using the SSO Extension and Okta FastPass
  • Managed macOS 15.0 devices using the SSO Extension and Okta FastPass

 

Solution

iOS 18.0 Impact

Okta has identified an issue causing an authentication loop with iOS 18.0 when using the SSO Extension as shown in this documentation

This error results in the following behavior on any managed devices that have the SSO Extension deployed:

  • End users will be stuck in a loop attempting to authenticate with Okta FastPass where on the screen, it says “Verifying your identity,” finally resulting in a timeout with the following error:

"There was an unsupported response from server."

 

Update as of October 4, 2024:

Apple has released a fix to this issue on iOS 18.0.1 which Okta has verified successfully. If an end user sees the above error, it is suggested that they upgrade to iOS 18.0.1 to resolve. Users and Administrators should not see any change in behavior between Okta Verify versions and iOS versions. 

macOS Sequoia Impact

Update as of October 4, 2024:

Apple has released a fix to this issue in macOS 15.0.1 which Okta has verified successfully. Okta advises that SSO Extensions with Okta FastPass be used on macOS 15.0.1 or above, as the bug may still be seen on macOS 15.0.
