When signing in to the Okta dashboard, a pop-up blocked notification may appear in the browser’s URL bar. This article explains why it occurs and provides guidance on how to resolve it.
- Okta Dashboard
- Okta Applications (Home) Page
- Browser
When an application on the Okta Dashboard is enabled with the Auto-launch this app when I sign in feature, it launches immediately after the user signs in. The browser interprets this redirection as a pop-up and may block it if a pop-up blocker is enabled.
This can cause confusion for users and prevent the application from launching automatically.
To resolve the issue where pop-up blockers interfere with auto-launch applications from the Okta Dashboard, follow the steps below.
Disable Auto-Launch Feature
If the Auto-launch this app when I sign in feature is not required, disable the feature.
-
Navigate to the Okta Dashboard.
-
Click the three dots icon on the application that is set to auto-launch.
-
In the settings menu on the right side of the Dashboard, click Edit.
-
Clear the Auto-launch this app when I sign in option to disable the feature.
Add the Okta URL to Pop-ups and Redirects Allow-List
To prevent pop-up blockers from interfering with auto-launch, add the Okta URL to the browser's allowlist.
-
Click the three dots (More) in the top-right corner of the browser.
-
Select Settings.
-
Go to Privacy and Security > Site Settings > Pop-ups and redirects.
-
Next to Allowed to send pop-ups and use redirects, click the Add button.
-
Enter the Okta URL in the following format:
https://<orgname>.okta.com:443orhttps://<orgname>.oktapreview.com:443.
NOTE: The solution is provided for the Chrome browser; however, similar steps can be followed for other browsers.
