Okta Workflows Inline Hook Fails to Update Inbound Username or Email Address

Workflows
Okta Classic Engine
Okta Identity Engine
All Engines

Overview

An Okta Workflows inline hook fails to update the inbound username or email address when the workflow configuration embeds the Return Raw card in an If/Else or If/Elseif card. Moving the Return Raw card outside of the conditional card resolves the issue. The workflow executes successfully, but the expected inbound username and email address updates do not occur.

Applies To

  • Okta Classic Engine
  • Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
  • Okta Workflows Linked to an Inline Hook

Cause

The workflow configuration embeds the Return Raw card within the If/Else or If/Elseif card.

Solution

How is the Okta Workflow Properly Configured to Update the Attributes to be Returned to the Calling Inline Hook?

Move the Return Raw card outside of the conditional card, create new outputs on the conditional card, and map the outputs to the new Return Raw card body.

  1. Create a Return Raw card to the right of the If/Else or If/Elseif card.
  2. Select Create Outputs at the top right of the If/Else or If/Elseif card.
  3. Select the Click or drag to create field and enter a name.
  4. Drag the output from the composing card (both the If and Else flows) that served as the input of the original Return Raw card to the input of the output created in Step 2.
  5. Drag the output created in Step 2 to the body of the new Return Raw card.
  6. Delete the original Return Raw card located inside the If/Else or If/Elseif card.
  7. Save the workflow and test the import.
