Okta Workday Provisioning Fails With an Address Validation Error

Okta Integration Network

Overview

When updating a user profile, the Workday provisioning flow fails with a validation error. This occurs because contact information events that change an address in Workday must be processed in chronological order. Resolve this issue by removing future pending changes in Workday, applying the current changes, and then reapplying the future changes.

The following error appears in the Okta Admin Console:

Automatic profile push of user <username> to app Workday failed: Unable to update personal info for Workday employee: Validation error occurred. Contact Information Events that change an Address must be done in order. To submit an event that changes an address with an earlier effective date you must rescind any Contact Information Events that change an address with a later effective date.

Workday error

Applies To

  • Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
  • Okta Classic Engine
  • Workday
  • Provisioning

Cause

This error occurs because contact information events that change an address in Workday must be processed in a specific chronological order. If changes are already pending in Workday with a later effective date, Okta cannot process new address changes with an earlier effective date.

Solution

How is the Workday address validation error resolved?

Resolve this issue by removing the future pending changes in Workday, applying the current changes, and then reapplying the future changes.

  1. Remove the future pending address changes in Workday.
  2. Apply the current pending changes from Okta.
  3. Reapply the additional future changes in Workday.

Contact Workday Support for additional assistance with managing contact information events.
