Okta Windows Credential Provider

Applies To
  • Okta Windows Credential Provider (RDP MFA)
Cause

This is a generic Windows Installer error (Error 2503) that often indicates insufficient permissions to the system's temporary (TEMP) folder. While this error can occur with various software installations, this document specifically outlines the resolution for the Okta Windows Credential Provider.

The installation process requires write and execute permissions within the C:\Windows\TEMP folder. If the user account running the installer or the system's security policies restrict these permissions, the installation can fail with Error 2503.

Solution

This can be resolved by:

  1. Navigate to the File Explorer location: C:\Windows\TEMP
  2. Right-click on the TEMP folder and select Properties.
  3. Select the Security tab.
  4. Then select the Add button.
  5. In the Enter the object names to select (examples): table, put in EVERYONE.
  6. Then select the button OK.
  7. Then, in the Group or user names: location, select the Edit button.
  8. For all Group and user names, allow Full Control.
  9. Then select the button Apply"
  10. Launch the product.
