Okta Admin Console Displays "Add an Admin to your Org" Prompt
Last Updated:
Overview
The Okta Admin Console displays a persistent Add an Admin prompt when an organization has only one active Super Administrator account. Okta displays this built-in onboarding tool to ensure tenant security. Adding a second Super Administrator account satisfies the system health criteria and clears the prompt.
Applies To
- Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
- Okta Classic Engine
- Okta Admin Console
- Administrators
Cause
The organization has only one active Super Administrator account. Okta requires at least two Super Administrator accounts to satisfy the system health criteria and clear the onboarding prompt. Operating with a single Super Administrator introduces the risk of a complete tenant lockout without a self-service recovery option if a credential failure or Single Sign-On (SSO) lockout occurs.
Solution
How is the Add an Admin prompt resolved?
Create a secondary account profile in the directory and assign the Super Administrator role to the new user to clear the prompt and guarantee tenant access.
- Navigate to Directory, select People, and click Add person to create the profile for the secondary account.
- Go to Security and select Administrators from the main menu on the left.
- Click Add administrator.
- Select the newly created user and assign the Super Administrator role.
- Click Save the changes.
Once Okta recognizes the second active Super Administrator account, the onboarding prompt recognizes the milestone as complete and stops appearing.
