Okta Access Gateway Upgrade Fails After Resizing the Terminal Window
Last Updated:
Overview
Resizing the terminal window smaller than 80x24 causes an Okta Access Gateway (OAG) upgrade to fail. Resolve this by monitoring the update log from a second terminal and rebooting the node or rolling back to a previous snapshot. Resizing the terminal window smaller than 80x24 during an upgrade causes the terminal to display the following error:
Terminal too small (Minimum requirement 80x24). Please resize the terminal.
After resizing the window, the update progress screen displays the following error:
Update failed. Review the following and contact Okta support.
Applies To
- Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
- Okta Classic Engine
- OAG
Cause
Resizing the terminal window smaller than 80x24 during the upgrade process causes the failure message.
Solution
How is the OAG upgrade failure resolved?
Monitor the update log from a second terminal and reboot the node or roll back to a previous snapshot.
- Leave the original terminal window open.
- Open a second terminal to the same OAG node and choose 5-System, followed by 0-Launch shell.
- Monitor the update log by running the provided command.
sudo tail -f /opt/oag/upgrades/current/yumUpdateOutput.log
- Wait until the "Complete!" message appears if the upgrade is still progressing, and then reboot the node to complete the upgrade.
- Roll back the node to the backup or snapshot taken before the upgrade and perform the upgrade again if the upgrade does not progress for a few minutes.
