Microsoft 2016 ADFS MFA Error: Could Not Create SSL/TLS Secure Channel

Overview

After setting Microsoft 2016 Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS), when the user tries to log in, this error appears:

 

The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel.

  • Multi-Factor Authentication and Adaptive MFA
  • Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
Cause

This error may show when TLS 1.2 is not enabled, and older versions are used.

Solution

To correct this behavior, TLS 1.2 needs to be enabled. This article provides more details on enabling TLS 1.2. For more information, please check the Migrating to TLS 1.2 documentation.

After making the changes, the device will need to be rebooted.
