Overview

This article clarifies whether the Okta sessions can be managed based on devices.

  • Global Session Policy
  • Session lifetime

Solution

Okta’s session and idle timeout settings are managed through Global Session Policies, which apply to user authentication sessions with Okta, not to device sessions. Currently, there is no option to configure session or idle timeout policies specifically for devices within Okta.

Idle timeout enforcement is always tied to the user’s Okta session. For external applications, session timeout must be managed by the application itself, not by Okta. Okta does not support creating device-based session policies or device groups for enforcing session timeouts.
