Intercom Provisioning Returns "Errors reported by remote server: Password is too short (minimum is 10 characters)"

Overview

Intercom provisioning flow fails with the following error visible in the Okta dashboard:

Automatic provisioning of user <username> to app Intercom failed: Error while creating user <username>: Bad Request. Errors reported by remote server: Password is too short (minimum is 10 characters)

Cause

This error is generated because the password policy in Okta is not set to at least ten characters.

Solution

  1. Refer to Intercom Documentation. In Okta, please ensure that the password policy requires at least 10 characters. To change this, please visit the Authentication section within Security settings.

  2. Afterward, attempt the failed tasks again. Navigate to Dashboard > Tasks. Any failed assignments should appear under Tasks.

Tasks

  1. After locating the failed task for the user that should be retried, click Retry Selected.
