This article provides steps to configure user import matching using a custom attribute. When configuring an application import, a required custom attribute may be missing from the attribute matching dropdown list.
This article assumes that an application integration is already configured and user imports are active.

- User Provisioning
- Profile Editor
- User Import
A custom attribute is not available for user import matching if a valid mapping does not exist for that attribute between the Application User Profile and the Okta User Profile in the Profile Editor.
To make a custom attribute available for import matching, a valid attribute mapping must be configured in the Profile Editor:
- In the Admin Console, navigate to Directory > Profile Editor.
- Locate the profile for the target application and click Mappings.
- When the dialog appears, click Configure user mappings.
- Select the [Application Name] to Okta User tab.
- Scroll through the attribute list to find the desired custom attribute.
- In the row for that attribute, map the application attribute from the left column to the corresponding Okta User Profile attribute in the right column.
- Click Save Mappings.
- In the dialog box that appears, select Apply updates now to apply the changes immediately.
After the mappings are saved and applied, the custom attribute is available in the dropdown list for user matching configuration.
