This article addresses whether it is possible to identify a user profile source directly via an Okta Application Programming Interface (API) call.

Solution
It is not currently possible to retrieve an Okta user's profile source via the Okta API.
The Get Assigned App links API call can be used to display applications assigned to a user. If the user is assigned to profile source applications such as Active Directory or Workday, their profile is most likely sourced from that application. This may vary depending on the specific Okta Profile Source priority and profile sourcing settings, however.
