Solution

How is Okta Verify configured as a third-party authenticator?

Follow the video below for step-by-step instructions, and refer to the steps below for more details.

Add a third-party account to Okta Verify by navigating to the security settings of the external website, generating a QR code or setup key, and scanning or entering the information into the Okta Verify application.

NOTE: Ensure the account protected by Okta Verify resides on a website that supports Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).

  1. Log in to the desired third-party website (for example, LinkedIn, GitHub, or Facebook).
  2. Navigate to the Security menu or the specific menu used to configure two-factor authentication.
  3. Follow the steps indicated by the website to set up the authenticator until a QR code appears.
NOTE: Some websites provide a setup key instead of, or in addition to, a QR code.
  4. Launch the Okta Verify application.
  5. Select the + sign to add an account.
  6. Choose Other and select Scan a QR Code. If the website lacks a QR code, choose Enter Key Manually.
  7. Scan the QR code that appears on the third-party site, or enter the Account Name and the Key that the website provides.
  8. Select Done. The newly added account appears in the Okta Verify application.
  9. Enter the six-digit authentication code from the Okta Verify application when the site prompts for verification during the next login.

NOTE: Although Okta Verify has push and number challenge capabilities, Okta Verify only provides the six-digit code when functioning as a third-party authenticator.
