How to Create a Request Type to Call a Workflow for Self Service Review

Overview

Request Types can be used to solve many use cases. For example, Request Types can be used to call an Okta Workflow that creates an Access Certification Campaign. This knowledge article will detail how to use OIG to do that. This guide assumes that the user has the rights to create Access Requests, Access Certifications, and Okta Workflows. The Okta Workflow created in this article will be called: Self Service / Employee Access Review Certification via Workflows

Solution
  1. Log in to the Okta tenant as an Administrator.  
  2. Click on Governance / Access Requests.
  3. Click on the Settings menu and select the Resources sub-menu.
  4. Select the Workflows option on the screen to view any and all workflows that have been synced with Access Requests. Ensure the Self Service Workflow is visible here. If not, follow the steps in Employee / Self Service Campaigns via Workflow on how to create the workflow. If it already exists, ensure it is enabled and click the Update now button on this screen. Refresh to locate the workflow. 
  5. Select the Access Requests menu on the left side of the page to create the Access Request.
  6. Click Create request type and enter Name and Description. Select the Team associated with this request, select the Audience, then click Continue.

  1. Select Add to request type to the right of the question to add to the request type.
  2. In the text box under Question, type “Self Review Reason?”
  3. Select the Type box and change from Text to Dropdown. Click Add option and enter “No longer needs access to resources”. Hit the Enter key to start a second entry. Enter “Want to review existing access”.

  1. Click the Action button at the bottom of the screen and select Run a workflow. In the text box, type “Run Self Review Workflow". In the Select the workflow box, click the dropdown and locate the already built workflow. In this example, the workflow is called “Self Review Campaign Workflow.”

  1. Click the pencil shape next to the name of the Request Type and enable Mark as done automatically?

  1. Click the Continue button and then hit the Publish button. The request type is now ready to run.
