Overview

The Credentials Provider Type specifies the authentication provider that validates the user's password. The user's current provider is managed by the organization's Delegated Authentication settings. The type can be OKTA, ACTIVE_DIRECTORY, LDAP, FEDERATION, SOCIAL, or IMPORT.

Applies To
  • User Credentials Provider type
Solution

The provider object is read-only and cannot be manually modified. This provider type can only be updated when the user's password is reset or specified when creating a new user via API.

  • For example, if the user's provider type is "IMPORT" and the user resets their password in Okta, the provider type will be updated to "OKTA".

NOTE: IMPORT specifies a hashed password that was imported from an external source.
