Okta Classic Engine
Okta Identity Engine
Overview

This article describes a method to include the Forgot password link on the first Sign-In screen where the user is prompted for their Username. This allows end users to reset their password without selecting the Password factor from the authenticators list first.

Applies To
  • Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR)
  • Sign-In Widget (Identifier-first flow)
  • Forgot password link on first Sign-In screen
Solution

Please follow the steps or video below.

  1. Navigate to Customizations > Brands.
  2. Select a brand > Click on Pages.
  3. Then locate the Sign-in page window > Click on the Configure button.
  4. Click on Labels > Customized help links.

Configure the following settings:

  1. Custom link 1 text: Forgot password?
  2. Custom link 1 URL: https://SubdomainName.okta.com/signin/forgot-password
  3. Click Save to draft and then Publish.

Once saved and published, the Forgot password? link will appear on the initial Sign-In screen, and users can use it to initiate the password reset. If configured under an Okta custom domain brand, the custom help link will only appear when users navigate to the login page associated with the custom domain URL.

The Custom link 1 text can be modified as desired. The text can be modified to match the requirement, such as Click here to reset your password as shown in the example below:
