How to Add a Connection to a Folder in Okta Workflows

Workflows
Okta Classic Engine
Okta Identity Engine

Overview

With RBAC (Role-Based Access Control), connections are not automatically available in a top-level folder. Connections must be explicitly added before the flows in that folder can use them. This article explains how to add a connection to a folder with RBAC in Okta Workflows.

Solution

How is a connection added to a folder in Okta Workflows?

When a folder is first opened with Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), the Connections tab displays as empty.

With RBAC for folders, connections must be explicitly added to a folder so flows in that folder can use them. Navigate to the folder, select an existing connection, and save the configuration to make it available to all flows in that folder.

  1. Open the folder, go to the Connections tab, and click Add Existing.
  2. Choose a connection from the list and click Save.
It will now be available to all flows in that folder. A new connection can also be created here.

Once added, flows inside the specific project folder can use the connection. In our example below, the Project 001 folder has the Okta connection.

Any subfolders within the project folder automatically inherit the connections from the top-level folder. In our example, Subfolder 002 is inheriting from the Project 001 folder.

NOTE: Subfolders do not have the option to set a connection since they inherit it from the top-level folder.
