After Okta release 2023.07.0.17+ on July 19th, 2023, the Okta Dashboard no longer renders in Edge browser windows opened in Legacy/IE compatibility mode. Some customers may still have legacy applications integrated with Okta that require accessing through a legacy browser like Internet Explorer, which means users will no longer be able to access the application from the Okta Dashboard preloaded in Edge in Legacy/IE mode. Current and future Okta releases will no longer be compatible with the requirements of IE or Edge in Legacy/IE compatibility mode. Required updates to libraries were implemented in anticipation of further modernization improvements to the Okta service, and these updates are incompatible with legacy browsers.
To workaround this issue, the following options are currently available. NOTE: Okta cannot guarantee the below configuration will continue to work, and it may stop working at any time as Okta continues to implement improvements and bug fixes.
Option 1: The user manually opens the app in Legacy mode
- From the Edge browser, click the three-dot menu and open the Settings page.
- Navigate to the Default Browser tab on the left-hand side.
- Set the Internet Explorer compatibility mode from Default to Allow.
- Reload Edge.
- Open the Okta Dashboard in a regular Edge browser window.
- Right-click the tile for the app that needs to open in IE mode and select Open link in new Internet Explorer mode tab.
Option 2: User's Edge browser is configured to open the app in Legacy mode
- From the Edge browser, click the three-dot menu and open the Settings page.
- Navigate to the Default Browser tab on the left-hand side.
- Set the Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode(IE mode) from Default to Allow.
- Click Add to the right of Internet Explorer mode pages and add the URL for the app landing page to the list.
- Reload Edge. The app page will now open in IE mode automatically when the user clicks the tile from the Okta Dashboard.
Option 3: Legacy mode behavior is controlled through GPO
