Overview

Display corruption occurs in the vi editor when resizing a Cygwin terminal window after establishing a Secure Shell (SSH) connection via the Okta Privileged Access (OPA) sft client. Resolve this display issue by triggering a screen redraw using keyboard shortcuts, scrolling, or reopening the file.

Applies To

  • Cygwin Terminal
  • vi editor

Solution

How is the vi editor display corruption resolved?

Configure the environment correctly by reviewing the Cygwin with Okta Privileged Access Setup Guide.

Trigger the vi editor to redraw the screen and restore the correct display by performing one of the following methods.

  • Press Ctrl + L in command mode to trigger a screen redraw.
  • Scroll up and scroll down within the terminal window to trigger a screen refresh.
  • Reopen the target file in the vi editor after resizing the terminal window.

NOTE: Okta Engineering is aware of this issue and is actively working on a permanent fix. Okta will update this article when a resolution is available.
