Device without Okta Verify Installed Hits the Authentication Rule with Device State "Registered"

Multi-Factor Authentication
Okta Identity Engine

Overview

When testing the authentication rule with "Device state is" set to "Registered", a Windows device without Okta Verify installed would hit the rule. macOS and mobile devices without Okta Verify installed would not hit the rule.

Applies To

  • Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
  • FastPass
  • Device Trust

Cause

When the tenant was upgraded from Classic Engine to Identity Engine, the Device Trust configuration was migrated. The previous configuration for the Windows platform using Device Trust was still functional on Identity Engine.

Solution

  1. Confirm that the old Device Trust configuration is not required by any application.
  2. Deactivate the old Device Trust configuration:
    1. In the Admin Console, navigate to Security > Device integrations.
    2. Click on Endpoint Management.
    3. For the required Platform, click Actions > Deactivate.
