Device Access in Okta: The Need for Okta Verify Reinstallation
Okta Device Access
Okta Identity Engine
Overview

This article clarifies whether it is necessary to uninstall or reinstall Okta Verify on a device after purchasing Okta Device Access.

Applies To
  • Okta Verify
  • Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
  • New Device Access enrollments only
Cause

The instructions for Okta Device access require the deployment of Okta Verify to work successfully.

The above instructions will work if the computers already have a version of Okta Verify installed, as long as there was no previous enrollment/installation of Device Access.

Solution

As long as Okta Device Access was not previously installed, it is possible to complete the steps below. The Okta Verify installation will then work with Device Access, and the offline Enrollments tab will become available.

Steps:

  1. Run the latest installer with the following flags. No uninstallation is needed.
     OktaVerifySetup--x.x.x.x-yyyyyyy.exe SKU=ALL ORGURL=https://customerorg.oktapreview.com/ CLIENTID=<value> CLIENTSECRET=<value>
  2. If Device Access has been previously installed, re-running the installer will likely fail. Okta recommends uninstalling Okta Verify and running the installer again with the flags mentioned.

NOTE: If this is the case scenario, end users will lose all FastPass and Okta Device Access (ODA) offline factor enrollments.
