Custom Domain Activation and Status Management in Okta
Last Updated:
Overview
A new custom domain requires Domain Name System (DNS) verification before activation and remains in a setup phase until completed. Okta does not provide an option to toggle a custom domain between active and inactive states, so the domain must be removed to deactivate it.

Solution
How can an Okta Administrator activate a new custom domain that still requires DNS verification?
During the setup of a new custom domain, Okta requires updates to specific DNS entries. Before Okta verifies the DNS entries, the custom domain remains inactive and shows a status of "Setup in progress" in the custom domain list. Okta Administrators can activate the custom domain by selecting the edit option and continuing the setup process in the actions column.
- Select Edit.
- Select Continue setup in the Actions column.
Does Okta allow toggling the status of a custom domain?
Okta does not provide an option to toggle the current status of a custom domain. Okta Administrators can deactivate an active domain by selecting the edit option and removing the domain in the actions column.
- Select Edit.
- Select Remove domain in the Actions column.
