Okta Provisioning to Coupa Fails with a Password Complexity API Error
Last Updated:
Overview
A password complexity mismatch between Okta and Coupa causes user provisioning to fail. Align the password complexity requirements in both applications to resolve the issue. When attempting to provision a user from Okta to Coupa, Okta generates the following error:
Automatic provisioning of user to app Coupa failed: Coupa API Error: password must contain at least one letter, number, and symbol.
Applies To
- Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
- Okta Classic Engine
- Coupa
- Provisioning
Cause
The password complexity requirements between Coupa and Okta do not align. For example, if Coupa requires symbols in the user password and the Okta user does not have a symbol in the password, Okta fails to provision the user.
Solution
How is the Coupa password complexity error resolved?
Align the password policies between the two applications by choosing one of the following methods.
- Remove the password complexity requirements in Coupa.
- Configure the same password requirements in Okta.
