Bulk Deactivation of Okta-Sourced Users Using the API or Admin Console

Overview
Okta does not provide scripts for the bulk deactivation of user accounts, but administrators can leverage the Okta User Application Programming Interface (API) or group rules in the Admin Console to achieve this. Administrators require a method to deactivate multiple Okta-sourced users simultaneously.

What methods exist for the bulk deactivation of Okta-sourced users?
Deactivate users via the Okta User API.
Okta does not provide scripts for the bulk deactivation of user accounts. Administrators can leverage the Okta User API to create API calls to bulk deactivate or delete users via Postman. Refer to the Deactivate User documentation for more information.
Deactivate users via the Admin Console.
Alternatively, administrators can deactivate users in bulk via the Admin Console if the users share a common property or belong to a specific group. Create a group, populate it using a group rule, and deactivate the group members using the bulk deactivation tool in the Directory menu.
- Navigate to Directory, and then select Groups.
- Choose the Rules tab and specify the criteria to populate the group with the users matching the selected criteria.
- Activate the rule.
- Navigate to the Directory, and then select People.
- Choose More Actions, and then select Deactivate.
- Select the down arrow next to Search by person, and then choose Search by group.
- Enter the name of the group and select it.
- Select all group members using the checkbox at the top of the first column, choose Deactivate Selected, and then select Deactivate.
