This can be configured by:
- Navigate to Security > Authentication Policies.
- Select the desired application (for example, Okta Dashboard) and then select the Rule.
- Under Actions, select Edit.
- Under THEN Access is, select Authentication method chain from the dropdown list.
What is the Authentication Method Chain?
- This feature allows admins to create a specific sequence of authenticator methods a user must complete before accessing an app.
- Bolster application security and mitigate the risk of account compromise by implementing a layered approach to authentication.
- For more information: Authentication method chain.
How does the Authentication Method Chain work?
The Authentication Method Chain gives three options to create the authentication policy rule.
- Allows the user to select between multiple factors.
- Set the sequence of factors the user is challenged by.
- Set multiple authentication flows.
Please be aware that this particular feature is part of the MFA or Adaptive MFA license. If this feature is missing from the environment, a contract upgrade may be necessary. Contact the designated Account Executive for more details.
