Solution

Admins can assign users to multiple groups with group rules.

A simple way to perform this is by:

  1. Access the Okta Admin App.
  2. Click Directory > Groups.
  3. Click Rules.
  4. Click Add Rule.
  5. Fill out the required sections of the rule:
    1. Name.
    2. IF (this will create the condition by leveraging a basic or Okta Expression Language (OEL) condition).
    3. THEN Assign to (add the groups to which Admins should have their users added. Multiple groups can be selected).
  6. Admins can fill out the optional section of the rule under - EXCEPT The following users
  7. Click Save
  8. When ready to enable the Group Rule, select Actions Activate. Please keep in mind the best practices prior to enabling the Group Rule:
    • Preview or test rules on a user before saving and executing.
    • Review existing rules and check for duplicate conditions.
    • Make sure to eliminate all cascading rules.
  9. Make sure the user was added by the rule created (see below screen shot)
