Administrators Cannot Find an Application in the Okta Admin Console
Last Updated:
Overview
An application opens from a direct link or the End-User Dashboard, but is missing from the Applications list and export in the Admin Console. This occurs when a user adds the application as a personal application, which Okta excludes from the Applications list for all administrators. Navigate to the Self Service Usage tab in the Okta Admin Console to review personal applications or access the application instance directly via URL to delete it.
Applies To
- Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
- Okta Classic Engine
- Applications
- Self Service
Cause
A user added the application as a personal application. Okta excludes personal applications from the Applications list for all administrators, including Super Administrators. Only that end user sees the personal version as an app integration tile on their dashboard.
Solution
Where do personal applications appear in the Okta Admin Console?
Identify the visibility and purpose of personal applications across the different Okta Admin Console locations using the provided table.
How do administrators review personal applications in the Okta Admin Console?
Navigate to the Self Service Usage tab in the Okta Admin Console to review the applications that end users add and their usage details.
- Sign in to the Okta Admin Console.
- Go to Applications.
- Select Self Service.
- Open the Usage tab.
- Review the applications that end users add and their usage details.
How does an admin delete a personal App using the Okta Admin Console?
Because personal apps do not appear in the standard Applications list search, admins can open the application instance directly using its ID:
- URL format:
https://<org>-admin.okta.com/admin/app/<appName>/instance/<appInstanceId>/. - From the page, click Deactivate, then Delete.
NOTE: End users can remove a personal app directly from their Okta End-User Dashboard by clicking the option (...) on the app tile and selecting Remove to confirm.
