Activating Deactivated Okta Accounts Without Renewing Login Credentials
Last Updated:
Overview
When an account reaches the Workday termination date, Okta deactivates the associated user account. Reactivating a deactivated account requires the user to renew their login credentials, whereas unsuspending an account allows the use of existing credentials. Administrators occasionally need to reactivate contractor accounts after a contract extension and question whether Okta can process the reactivation without requiring a password reset.

Solution
Is it possible to reactivate a deactivated Okta account without renewing login credentials?
No, reactivating a deactivated user account requires the user to renew their login credentials. Okta requires a password reset for security purposes when an account transitions from a deactivated state to an active state. Conversely, if an administrator unsuspends a suspended user account, the user retains the ability to authenticate using their existing login credentials.
