Okta AD Agent Does Not Send Online Notification after Reinstall
Directories
Overview

As a part of regular health checks on any Okta org with a domain integration, the Okta AD Agent is regularly monitored for connectivity to the org. If an Agent loses connectivity with its org, a disconnection notification email is sent. Likewise, when the same Okta Agent is reconnected to the org, a reconnection notification email is sent.

This article explains why the Okta AD Agent does not send a reconnection notification after being reinstalled.

Solution

Okta does not send a notification when a new Agent is installed.

If the Okta AD Agent is reinstalled over the top of an existing installation, a new Agent ID will be created, and the Agent is treated as new. Therefore, no reconnection notification will be sent.

Likewise, there will be no reconnection notification if an Okta Agent goes offline and is reinstalled before returning online.

These are expected behaviors.

NOTE: This also happens when the AD agent is manually updated with the installer (this is required when only one agent is present on the domain). Even though the old agent is not uninstalled first, this update creates a new agent with a new agent ID; thus, no reconnection notification is sent in this case either.
