Locating the Password Policy After Okta Identity Engine Upgrade

Administration
Okta Classic Engine
Multi-Factor Authentication
Okta Identity Engine

Overview

Upgrading from Okta Classic Engine to Okta Identity Engine (OIE) introduces a user interface change that relocates the password policy settings. In Okta Classic Engine, the password policy resides under the Security and Authentication menus, but OIE splits sign-on policies between Global Session Policies and Authentication Policies. Administrators locate and edit the password policy in OIE by navigating to the Authenticators section of the Admin Console.

Applies To

  • Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
  • Okta Classic Engine
  • Password Policy
  • Admin Console

Cause

In Okta Classic Engine, the password policy resides in the Okta Admin Console under Security > Authentication > Password. In OIE, the Authentication option under Security no longer exists because OIE splits the sign-on policies between Global Session Policies and Authentication Policies.

Solution

Where does the password policy reside in Okta Identity Engine?

Locate and edit the password policy in Okta Identity Engine by navigating to the Authenticators menu in the Admin Console and modifying the Password authenticator settings.

  1. Navigate to the Okta Admin Console.
  2. Go to Security > Authenticators.
  3. Next to the Password authenticator, select the Actions dropdown menu and choose Edit.
