Infinite Authentication Loop in SAML SSO to Oracle WebLogic within the Same Browser Session
Single Sign-On
Overview

Users utilizing Oracle WebLogic may encounter an infinite loop during the SAML Single Sign-On (SSO) authentication process with Okta. This problem typically arises when users attempt to reopen an application within the same browser session. The browser continuously toggles between two URLs, causing the login process to loop endlessly. Interestingly, initiating the application in a fresh browser session or an incognito/private browser window avoids this issue.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Launch a new browser session.
  2. Access the Oracle WebLogic application via the Okta dashboard. At this point, users should be able to log in successfully without any complications.
  3. Close the Oracle WebLogic application.
  4. Attempt to relaunch the application from the same browser session. At this stage, users are likely to encounter an infinite login loop.
Applies To
  • SAML SSO
  • Oracle WebLogic
Solution

To address this issue, it is recommended to contact Oracle WebLogic's support team. They can provide more information and provide guidance on the steps needed to rectify this issue on the WebLogic server.
