Solution

How is a custom attribute updated using a CSV file?

Update a custom attribute for users by downloading the CSV template, editing the attributes, and uploading the completed file in the Okta Admin Console.

  1. In the Okta Admin Console, go to Directory > People.
  2. Select More Actions > Import Users from CSV.
  3. Select this template to download the CSV template.

  4. The template contains all the Okta attributes. Edit the attributes and keep only login, firstName, lastName, email, and the custom_attribute. If any additional required attributes exist, add them to the CSV file.

  6. Save the file once completed.
  7. In the Okta Admin Console, go to Directory > People.
  8. Select More Actions > Import Users from CSV.
  9. Select the saved file using Browse and select Upload CSV. If no formatting errors exist, Okta parses the file successfully.
