Update a Custom Attribute in an Okta User Profile Using a CSV File

Overview
Administrators can update custom attributes in an Okta user profile by importing a Comma-Separated Values (CSV) file. Downloading the CSV template, editing the required attributes, and uploading the completed file updates the user profiles in the Okta Admin Console.

Solution
How is a custom attribute updated using a CSV file?
Update a custom attribute for users by downloading the CSV template, editing the attributes, and uploading the completed file in the Okta Admin Console.
- In the Okta Admin Console, go to Directory > People.
- Select More Actions > Import Users from CSV.
- Select this template to download the CSV template.
- The template contains all the Okta attributes. Edit the attributes and keep only
login,firstName,lastName,email, and thecustom_attribute. If any additional required attributes exist, add them to the CSV file. - Add the details of the users, one on each line, in the order of the attributes.
- Save the file once completed.
- In the Okta Admin Console, go to Directory > People.
- Select More Actions > Import Users from CSV.
- Select the saved file using Browse and select Upload CSV. If no formatting errors exist, Okta parses the file successfully.
- Select Next, followed by Import users in the next window to complete the process. The options listed in the Import users window apply to new users and are not required for this update.
