Overview

Sending an activation email to a user's personal email address requires populating both the primary and secondary email fields in the Okta user profile. Once the user is activated or their password is reset, Okta sends the activation link to both the primary and secondary email addresses.

Solution

How can an Okta activation email be sent to a personal email address?

Populate both the primary and secondary email addresses in the Okta user profile with valid, active email addresses, designating the secondary email address as the personal email address. Okta sends the activation email to both the primary and secondary email addresses on the user profile upon user activation.

 

Trigger the activation email for new or existing users by applying the appropriate method based on the user's status.

  • For users already imported into Okta, an administrator must reset the user's password to trigger the activation link.
  • For new users with a personal email address populated in the Okta profile, Okta sends the activation link immediately after confirming the user.
