Pull a List of Active SAML 2.0 Applications Using the Okta API
Last Updated:
Overview
Administrators can pull a list of all active applications using Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) 2.0 authentication by querying the Okta API. The solution involves using Postman to send a request to the Okta API and filtering the response by the active status and SAML 2.0 sign-on mode.

Solution
How does the Okta API list active SAML 2.0 applications?
Retrieve a list of active SAML 2.0 applications by configuring Postman with the required OAuth 2.0 scopes and executing a filtered API request as detailed in either the video demonstration or the written instructions.
- Integrate Postman with Okta.
- Include the
okta.apps.readOAuth 2.0 scope in the request. - Select the Apps (Okta API) / List ACTIVE Apps API command in Postman.
- Enter the following API call to list all active applications in the Okta org:
{{url}}/api/v1/apps?filter=status eq "ACTIVE"
- Select Send.
- Review the response parameters for a
200 OKstatus.
NOTE: Ensure the request API calls include the required scope.
- Locate the
signOnModeattribute in the response data to identify SAML 2.0 applications, which display a value ofSAML_2_0.
