Group Linking Functionality in Okta
Okta Integration Network
Administration
Okta Classic Engine
Okta Identity Engine
Overview

This article explains using the Group Linking functionality in Okta.

Applies To
  • Enhanced Group Push
  • Group Linking
  • Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
  • Okta Classic Engine
Solution

In the Enhanced Group Push feature, an Okta-sourced group can be connected to an Application-sourced group.

NOTE: The application-sourced group must be imported into Okta initially. Once the group is visible in the Directory > Groups page, it can be linked to an Okta-sourced group.

There are two ways to use group linking and make the application-sourced groups visible for selection:

  • Import the groups using the Import Groups option under the Integration tab of the application settings.

Import Groups

  • Use the Refresh App Groups option found under the Push Groups tab of the application settings.

Refresh App Groups

NOTE:

  • While the Import Groups option must remain enabled for applications like Org2Org and Google, for most other applications, the group linking functionality will still work by just using the Refresh App Groups option.
  • It is essential to remember that when performing an import from an application into Okta, all users and groups from that app will be included. Testing this process in a Preview organization is recommended before implementing it in a Production organization.
