Overview

This article explains how Okta Administrators with user management permissions can send a password reset email to an end user via the Okta Admin Console.

Applies To
  • Lifecycle Management
  • Okta Classic Engine
  • Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
Solution

Please refer to the video or the steps below:

  1. Log in to the Okta Admin Console.
  2. Navigate to Directory > People.
  3. Find and select the target user.
  4. Depending on the Okta Engine version, select one of the following:
    • Reset or Remove password (OIE)
    • Reset Password (Okta Classic)
  5. Select Send a reset password email and click Reset password.
  6. The following optional actions are also available:
    • Create a temporary password: This temporary password must be provided to the end user.
    • Sign out user: The user will be signed out of all devices and browsers.

NOTE: It is now required that users be part of a Password policy that allows password changes even when an Administrator makes the request. If the password policy doesn't allow password reset, the option to send a reset password email will not be present:
