When trying to log in with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), users may encounter the following error message.
Factor Type is invalid.
This article outlines steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
- Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
- Browsers
The cause of this error message is not clear from the message alone, and there can be several reasons why it is displayed (too many to cover in this article). However, it can occur if there are issues with the MFA settings or if problems arise with the user's browser sessions and cache.
-
Clear Browser Sessions and Cache
Clear all active sessions and cache from the user's browser. Then, re-open a fresh browser session and try logging in with MFA again. -
Clear Active Sessions
Ask the company administrator to clear all active sessions from the user's Okta user profile. Then, try logging in with MFA again. -
Reset MFA
If the issue still persists, ask the company administrator to reset the MFA settings for the affected user. -
Contact Okta Support
If none of the above steps work, contact Okta Support for further assistance in resolving the Factor Type is invalid error.
