Overview

When upgrading to a newer version of the Okta Internet Explorer (IE) Plugin, it might be unclear if modifications to the Class ID in the created group policy are required. This article clarifies the requirements for managing Class IDs during an upgrade process.

Applies To

  • Okta Browser Plugin for Internet Explorer
  • Group Policy Installation

Cause

During the upgrade process for the Okta IE Plugin, a group policy is typically utilized to allowlist the Okta Plugin. This step is essential to suppress the appearance of the Choose add-ons button during installation, which could cause end users to disrupt the plugin installation. The need for modifications to the Class ID can arise from this process.

Solution

Contrary to potential expectations, Class IDs for the Okta IE Plugin are consistent and do not require any changes across different versions of the plugin. The following are the constant Class IDs:

  1. OktaBHO Class: Class ID {E411779C-5CFE-413F-A57B-18C55A4EFADA}
  2. OktaIeHelper Class: Class ID {302700E7-59EF-49EC-9439-EA590552D1ED}
    • NOTE: Add this Class ID only if running Okta plugin version 5.3.2 or earlier.
  3. Okta Toolbar Extension: Class ID {8C938A58-9A96-4A95-929D-C8C28C639C32}
