The fromURI Parameter Is Not Honored in Profile Enrollment Activation Flows

Overview

The following reconfiguration has been identified as part of the preparation needed to perform the upgrade to Okta Identity Engine (OIE). Note that additional Okta features may require reconfiguration or be disabled in order to complete the upgrade. This article addresses an issue where the fromURI parameter appended to a user activation URL does not redirect the user as expected after they complete their profile enrollment. This occurs when using an application-initiated activation flow (via the Sign-in Widget or a Software Development Kit) as part of an upgrade to OIE.

Applies To
  • Okta Identity Engine
  • Profile Enrollment
  • User Activation Flows
  • Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
Cause

The fromURI parameter is supported in OIE, but its functionality is limited to user activation flows that are initiated by an administrator or directly through an API call. The parameter is not designed to be honored in application-initiated "Profile Enrollment" activation flows.

Solution

The redirection capability of the fromURI parameter is not supported for application-initiated user activation flows that use Profile Enrollment. It is necessary to plan post-upgrade to account for user creation and activation patterns that use these capabilities.
