Configuring a custom email address for branded notifications ensures end users receive emails from a company-specific address rather than the default no-reply@okta.com. A custom email sender displays the company name or the application name for end-user transactions.

How to configure a custom email address for branded notifications in Okta?
Navigate to the brand settings, add the custom email domain, enter the sender details, and verify the DNS records.
- In the Admin Console, go to Customizations > Brands, and then select the brand.
- In the Domains tab, locate the Email section and click Add domain.
NOTE: Creating a new brand is not necessary to create a Custom Email Domain. The custom email domain functions under the default subdomain and replaces the default address once the configuration completes.
Review the Domains interface to locate the Email section and add a new domain.
- In the next section, enter values for the Email address, Name of the email sender, and Mail subdomain fields.
NOTE: Okta clears the input values if navigating to other browser tabs or applications before clicking the Next button. - In the Email address field, enter the custom email address. This email address appears in the emails sent to the end users. When requiring multiple custom email domains for a single root domain like
<domain.com>, use subdomains. Otherwise, Okta returns an error: Email domain already exists. This ensures that there are no conflicting Domain Name System (DNS) records. An example is<noreply@example1.domain.com>. The next email domain requires a different subdomain, for example,[<noreply@example2.domain.com>](mailto:noreply@example2.domain.com).
- For more information, see Use the Same Email Address for Custom Email Domains Across Multiple Brands.
- In the Name of the email sender field, enter the sender's name. This name appears as the sender in the emails sent to users.
- In the Mail subdomain section, enter a unique value to ensure there are no conflicting DNS records.
NOTE: The mail subdomain does not appear in emails sent to end users; Okta uses it for the propagation of Canonical Name (CNAME) records in the DNS registrar. - Update the DNS records using the provided values.
- After updating the DNS records through the domain provider, click Verify.
NOTE: Polling takes up to 24 hours. Okta keeps the configuration pending until detecting the DNS updates.
Review the CNAME records provided by Okta to update the DNS registrar.
