Confluence API Error "Could not verify the Confluence administrator login, password; please confirm that these are set correctly"

Overview

The Confluence API Credentials test fails with the following error visible in the Okta dashboard:

 

Could not verify the Confluence administrator login, password; please confirm that these are set correctly.

 

Error Message

The Confluence administrator credentials are correct, as we are able to use them locally on the Confluence instance to log in to the admin account.

Cause

Based on the vendor requirements mentioned in the Enabling the Remote API document: 

  • Remote API (XML-RPC & SOAP) on the Confluence Administration Console is not enabled.
Solution
  1. As per Confluence documentation, it is needed to enable the APIs from the Administration Console in order to use the XML-RPC and SOAP remote APIs. System Administrator permissions are required to perform this task.

  2. To enable the remote API:

    1. Log in to Confluence Administration Console.
    2. Choose the gear icon gear icon, then choose General Configuration.
    3. Click Further Configuration in the left-hand panel.
    4. Click Edit.
    5. Click the checkbox next to Remote API (XML-RPC & SOAP).

Remote API (XML-RPC & SOAP)

    1. Click Save.

  1. After changes are made, navigate to Okta Admin Console > Applications > Confluence App > Provisioning > Integration > click the Edit button. Verify that the Confluence admin's credentials are correct and click Test API credentials. Then Save.

  2. If the issue still persists, please contact Confluence support for more details and steps on how to resolve this error.
