Overview

The Entity ID (also known as the Issuer) is defined as a URI that identifies a SAML entity, such as a SAML Identity Provider (IdP) or Service Provider (SP). This document will review whether the Entity ID can be duplicated or changed in Okta.

Applies To
  • Okta Identity Provider (IdP)
  • Custom SAML Application
  • Okta Integration Network (OIN) Application
  • Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML)
Cause

A need may arise to duplicate or change the Entity ID in certain instances.

Solution
  • The Entity ID of a SAML application created from the Okta Integration Network (OIN) catalog cannot be modified.
  • The Entity ID of a  Custom SAML application can be modified.
    • By default, the Entity ID is a uniquely generated value for each application.
    • To duplicate the Entity ID to an existing value or to change the Entity ID, navigate to General > SAML Settings > Edit > General Settings (Next) > Show Advanced Settings > SAML Issuer ID.
