Okta Access Request provides the ability for customers to manage how employees or end users request access to resources. In most cases, requests are made by either navigating to the Access Request web console, through Access Request’s pre-built integration with Slack, or through Request Access on the End User Dashboard when using Resource Centric Access Requests (RCAR).
The pre-built integration provides means to request access (for Request Types), approve access, and track the progress of the request.
If a user is assigned an Approval Task but has not added the Access Requests app to the sidebar in Slack, they will not receive a Slack notification for it until it gets added by the user.

In order to take advantage of this integration, customers must enable the Okta Slack app in their Slack Workspace or Grid. However, since employees or end users have control of their own sidebar, there is no way to “pin” or preinstall an app for all users in a Workspace or Grid. Therefore, employees or end users are required to add the Okta Slack app manually.
To ease the burden, Okta has provided suggestions below to assist in the deployment of the Okta Slack app for all users.
Notify employees or end users via corporate communication using Slack. Create and send an announcement to employees in a popular and applicable channel, such as a company employee channel or a general channel that includes the appropriate audience. In the announcement, include an introductory message informing them of Okta Access Requests and the benefits of using Slack to request access to resources. As part of this introduction, include an @-mention to the Okta Access Requests app and have them click it to open and initialize adding the application to their Slack console.
- Send a Channel Announcement - This approach is good for bringing attention to the feature without requiring immediate attention but may prolong adoption.
- Send a Direct Message - This approach may require an appropriate level of privileges, but it is good for immediate attention.
