Can a Deleted Okta Group or User Be Restored

Overview

To prevent accidental deletions of groups or users, Okta provides various security controls such as permission sets, role-based access controls, and multi-factor authentication. It is important for Okta administrators to carefully review and manage group and user permissions to minimize the risk of unintentional deletions.

Solution

When a user or group is deleted from Okta, all associated data and configurations are permanently removed from the system. There is no built-in mechanism in Okta to restore a deleted group once it has been permanently deleted.

If a group was accidentally deleted from Okta and there is no backup or other means of restoring the group, it may be necessary to recreate the group manually in Okta and reconfigure any associated settings and permissions.

The same mechanism applies to an environment's status - there is no "restore point" available in Okta.
